E-Learning Specialist

This is a full-time, 12-month position working 18.75 hours per week (0.5 FTE), Monday to Friday. Scheduled hours TBD.

The Thomas Merton Centre for Continuing Education is seeking an E-Learning Specialist for its LINC/ESL/FSL Program.

LOCATION: Thomas Merton Centres – Burlington, Oakville and Milton
EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately
SALARY: Based on Salary Band 3 ($62,834 to $70,706 per annum) pro-rated to half time

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Train language Instructors and prepare training materials, tutorials, and instructional videos for E-Learning.
  • Provide orientation sessions to new & existing students in the use of Google Classroom/Meet/Docs/Chrome.
  • Assist learners with course enrollment, registrations, email, and provide ongoing student support upon request.
  • Support permanent and supply instructional staff, the administration team, and the settlement team as needed.
  • Respond to all queries and requests by language instructors from all TMC site locations in a timely manner.
  • Visit language classes regularly (in-person & online classes) and provide support to instructors as requested.
  • Review course activities/content, support course delivery. Share resources and best practices among instructors.
  • Provide feedback, suggestions, and propose solutions towards the effective delivery of online course materials.
  • Ad hoc troubleshooting of technical issues with software/hardware. Report problems to the IT Department.
  • Report technical and content-related issues brought forth by Instructors and Learners to LINC/ESL Officers.
  • Submit monthly reports on activities and outcomes to LINC/ESL Officers & Languages Program Manager.
  • Identify new and ongoing issues, trends, instructor/student needs, and technical equipment/software needs.
  • Liaise with Avenue developers and implement innovations to enhance the ESL/FSL learning experience.
  • Maintain and modify websites, social media content, and digital outreach as directed by administration.
  • Develop and design self-led learning modules for student language learning and settlement information.
  • Assist with online web communications, e-media postings, and e-publishing materials as assigned.
  • Deliver workshops and training for students in the use of common computer software/Microsoft applications.
  • Travel to all TMC sites within Halton Region will be required (Oakville, Burlington, Milton).

Qualifications:

  • University degree in a related field (ex. Language Instruction, Education, Digital Design).
  • TESL Ontario Accreditation: Ontario Certified English Language Teacher Designation (OCELT).
  • Demonstrated experience providing professional support and assistance to colleagues.
  • Experience delivering online instruction to individuals and groups at various CLB levels.
  • Expertise in the suite of Google programs for online language learning including Google Classroom/Google Docs.
  • Proven working knowledge of “Avenue” – ESL/FSL online learning management system funded by IRCC.
  • Experience with Microsoft Publisher in the design and creation of outreach content and school communications.
  • Patient demeanor with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills.
