Supply ESL/LINC Instructor

The Toronto District School Board’s Non-Credit Adult ESL and LINC Programs are looking for qualified, experienced instructors to teach at locations throughout the city. Opportunities include days, evenings and Saturdays. We offer competitive rates. Duties & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Adult ESL/LINC Program Officer, the supply instructor will be responsible for providing goal-directed, outcome-based and learner centered English language instruction, aligned with the Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) approach.

• Instruct class according to daily lesson plan using appropriate and relevant resources and methods of delivery, in accordance with Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and principles of adult learning
• Report on attendance as required
• Provide a safe, nurturing bias-free, positive and respectful learning environment that recognizes individual differences
• Operate in accordance with related TDSB and department policies, procedures and requirements (e.g. Human rights, Code of Conduct, Health & Safety)
• Take appropriate action in conflict or emergency situations according to TDSB policies and organizational (emergency/evacuation) procedures

Qualifications:

• Must have TESL Ontario certification (OCELT)
• Post-secondary degree from an accredited institution with one year related experience teaching ESL or equivalent
• Thorough understanding of the Canadian Language Benchmarks
• Knowledge of PBLA is an asset
• Computer skills and familiarity with related program software (e.g. MS Office, Zoom, Tutela, Academic Workspace)
• Excellent command of oral and written English
• Strong interpersonal skills
